Check Out This Week’s Round Up, Featuring Chip, Diplo, Stefflon Don And More

0 Music / The Round Up

It’s the second week of August and whilst some countries in Europe were reaching scorching temperatures that went into the 40 centigrade mark, the UK switched back to its default mode of dull skies and rain. But don’t worry the roundup for this week isn’t as bleak as the weather so read on for news ranging from Forbes highest paid DJ, AIM Award nominations to Stefflon Don’s new track.

Calvin Harris tops Forbes ‘World’s Highest-Paid DJs’ list for the fifth time in a row

Last week there was the news of Neymar signing For PSG For 199 million, although comparatively, it’s nowhere near, Calvin Harris received the top spot on Forbes by earning $48.5 million from June 2016 to June 2017. This was followed by EDM producer Tiësto ($39m) and The Chainsmokers ($38m). The youngest on the list was Martin Garrix who earned a whopping $19.5m and is only 21 years old-he’s not doing too bad.

Talking about producers Diplo (who was also mentioned in Forbes for earning $28.5m) landed in hot water or should I say Cold Water after he revealed that Rihanna turned down a possible collaboration and remarked that his music sounds like a “reggae song at an airport.” In true Rihanna style, she responded with an Instagram post of the article saying ‘#DutyFree 😂😂😂 My bad @diplo’. Having cleared that up, will there be new music in the pipeline?

AIM Award nominations revealed

This week marked the release of the nominations for AIM Awards 2017, which included the likes of Little Simz, 67, Jacob Plant, Dave, Sampha, Giggs, Childish Gambino, The xx, Alt-J, Goldfrapp, Passenger and Stormzy . The award ceremony is set to take place at The Brewery in Clerkenwell on September 5 and the night will be dedicated to celebrating independent music.

Jam packed with an afro RnB sound the song provides a surge of feel good summer vibes. TayoGG is part of South East London collective Finesse Foreva who are set to drop their mixtape on 20th August so look out for that!

And the show goes on..

The whole tour life can get gruelling after a while and there’s no surprise to why artists have made last minute tour cancellations. Just rewind it back to a week ago where Justin Bieber cancelled the last fourteen dates of his Purpose tour to take some time out. As well as that there is the dreaded vocal injury which has affected artists such as Adele, which meant they had to cancel some dates. Although some of this is beyond their control the cancelling streak could have spread to 2 Chainz this week after he’d broken his leg. Keeping the broken leg under wraps he took fans by surprise when he came onto the stage in a wheelchair. The show which took place on Wednesday was the first date of the Pretty Girls Like Trap Music tour. Although he still has four months of the tour left, props to 2 Chainz for continuing his tour.

Stefflon Don has been causing a storm in the music scene and she’s set to turn the levels even higher with her first official single and it features an overseas link up with French Montana. Stefflon Don provides her distinctive Caribbean dipped vocals in the infectious single, which is produced by Rymez who has worked with the likes of Jeremih, Sean Paul and Wiley.

Today is the day! Chip has dropped his 17 track project League of My Own II and it’s definitely worth the wait! Chip goes in HARD and sprays over a variety of different tempos and genres, paving his way as an artist with great versatility.  The tracklist features a wealth of homegrown UK talent with likes of Ghetts, 67, Donae’O, Giggs and Loick Essien making an appearance.
